Who are Scouts?
The Scout Section is for young people, usually aged between 10.5 and 14 years. Scouts are members of a Troop, which will be made up of a number of Patrols each lead by a PL (Patrol Leader).
The Scout Troop is the third Section in the Scout Group.
Scouts meet once a week for an hour and half during term time. They are lead by SL (Scout Leaders) and ASL (Assistant Scout Leader/s).

What do Scouts do?
Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their active programme that is a balanced combination of learning and having fun. They learn about themselves, other people and people from their local community. They find out about life in other countries and explore through organised activities. They care by helping those around them. They learn how to make their own decisions and planning their own activities and challenge themselves. They learn about leadership and commitment, work as a team and help others. They undertake outdoor activities and challenges and prepare to become Explorer scouts.

Scouts Radio
We have just completed the recording our own radio show called the A-Z show on Goss FM at our local radio station - Accrington Academy. Click here to listen to our show. Pictures of the scouts creating the show can be found here. You can also read a report of what they day consisted of. Some of the Scouts have written reviews of the day. These can also be found within our report.

What are Scouts doing this October - November?
The scouts have now completed their Navigation skills by understanding how to read different types of maps. They improved their knowledge  by writing their own route cards and allowed other scouts to guide them to their chosen point following the route card. This gave them the knowledge they needed for further hikes they might take part in.

Congratulations to St Pauls Barnfield Scouts for coming overall 3rd in the District Sports Day and finishing 2 events in first place.

Uniform
Scouts wear a full uniform, once they have been invested. Please label all clothing with your child’s name to avoid it getting mislaid. Scouting is a uniformed organisation and the uniform tells everyone that you are a Scout. For instance, people can tell which Group you belong to by looking at the colour of your neckerchief (Green and Yellow).
Scouts wear a Teal Green shirt, navy blue activity trousers, Scout belt and their Group scarf. Full uniform must be worn at every scouting event unless specified differently. Please ensure that neckerchiefs are ironed and properly folded.

Awards and Badges:

Scouts can achieve a number of different badges, including 69 Activity badges, a range of staged badges, 8 challenge badges based on adventure, community, creative, expedition, fitness, global and outdoor, and outdoor plus. Click the picture of the uniform (above) for the position of the badges.
The highest badge in Scouts is the "Chief Scouts Gold award"

More information about the badges scouts can earn, and the requirements for each badge, can be fund at
here from the scouting HQ website.

As scouts, it is your responsibility to find out what badges you can gain, as we can only assist in helping you gain some badges. The idea is that you look at the badges website, find out which badges you want to complete and provide one of the leaders with the evidence and there you go, you might be awarded the badge.

Promise and the Law
At your investiture as a Scout you will make the Scout Promise in front of the rest of the Troop.

The Promise is a very difficult one to keep, but it is a most serious one and nobody is a Scout unless they do their best to live up to this Promise.

Robert Baden-Powell - Scouting for Boys

You may not always agree with other people, but you should always be willing to listen to what they have to say, and you should respect their views and opinions even when they do not match your own point of view.

Scouts behaviour policy
Our behaviour policy that we have adopted is a traffic light system with green being good, orange being a warning and red being the final warning for the night. Once the scout has reached red parents will be informed of the scouts behaviour. If the scout carries on misbehaving once reached red they will be asked to miss the next meeting. More detailed information on this policy can be found here.
